About
Founded in 2018 by Sujata Moorti (then GSFS chair), Karin Hanta (director of the Feminist Resource Center at Chellis House) and students Ruby Edlin ’19.5, Rebecca Wishnie ’20, and Elizabeth Sawyer ’19, the Archives of Dissent document past and present forms of feminist activism, especially activism related to ending gender based violence on the Middlebury campus. Students have long used writing, protests, map-making, speak-ins, and art to address gender equality, sexual assault, and other feminist issues. The Archives of Dissent gather and catalog evidence of this work in order to counteract the loss of institutional knowledge and memory that occurs after each class graduates. By making these histories easily accessible, the Archives provide students with the background knowledge to further the momentum of past activists and better tackle sexual violence and other feminist issues both in and outside of the Middlebury community.
